URSULINE ACADEMY

TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT PLAN

s
Project

Project Overview

Ursuline Academy, a private girls’ school in Dallas, expanded its campus to include a new STEM building. During construction, DeShazo Group was retained to proactively manage transportation challenges caused by reduced parking capacity, increased pedestrian conflict points, and altered circulation patterns. The goal was to maintain a safe and efficient flow of students, staff, and construction traffic while minimizing disruption to daily school operations.

🏫 K–12 Education | 📍 Dallas, Texas
🚧 Scope: Transportation Management Plan (TMP), construction-phase traffic operations, and campus parking assessment
🏫 Client: Ursuline Academy of Dallas
🏗️ Development: Construction of the French Family Math and Science Technology Building and temporary campus reconfiguration during the 2008–2009 academic year.

🚦 Traffic & Pedestrian Safety Planning During Construction

1. Evaluated risks from temporary classrooms placed across internal roads
2. Mitigated pedestrian/vehicle conflict zones through rerouted paths and controls
3. Managed access for construction vehicles during peak school hours

🅿️ Parking Supply & Student Vehicle Reduction Strategy

1. Quantified loss of on-campus parking and proposed carpool incentives
2. Recommended limiting student parking passes to reduce vehicle volume
3. Developed maps by ZIP code to aid in student carpool pairings

Strategic Highlights

🛠️ Smart Planning for Schools Under Construction

Keeping learning in motion—even when the campus is being rebuilt.

🔄
Carpool Circulation Pattern & TMP Design

2. Designed a color-coded “Carpool Plan During Construction” with safe circulation loops
3. Provided guidelines for optimized drop-off/pick-up without queue spillover

📣
Stakeholder Engagement & Implementation Support

1. Coordinated with school leadership to educate parents on new procedures
2. Supported communications strategy for traffic changes and expected disruptions
3. Received positive feedback from parents and staff on smoother campus operations
